We are recruiting on behalf of a leading provider in the civil infrastructure sector, specialising in the bespoke manufacture of safety-critical concrete products for the UK rail industry. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operational leader to take ownership of a busy and highly technical manufacturing site.
The Role
- Lead day-to-day operations in a fast-paced environment producing bespoke concrete components.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards at all times.
- Manage a team of 4 direct reports and around 30 staff (a mix of permanent and agency).
- Plan labour and resources to adapt to fluctuating production volumes (typically 4,000–8,000 linear metres per month).
- Oversee stock and supplier management to guarantee uninterrupted production.
- Drive environmental and sustainability targets, including carbon reduction.
- Make key operational decisions early in the day (from 6am onwards) to ensure production targets are consistently met.
- Solve complex challenges quickly and effectively, ensuring efficiency and delivery of projects on time, every time.
About You
- Proven leadership experience in concrete manufacturing, heavy industry or engineering.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental compliance (IOSH/NEBOSH desirable).
- A confident and proactive decision-maker, especially under pressure.
- Skilled in managing production fluctuations and material/stock challenges.
- Experience leading and managing mixed teams (permanent and agency staff).
- Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel (ERP/SAP experience an advantage).
Salary & Benefits
- £45,000 – £55,000 per annum (depending on experience).
- 40+ hours per week with expected flexibility to meet operational needs.
- Annual performance-related bonus (2–4%, based on personal and business performance).
- Excellent career progression opportunities within a growing sector.
This is a challenging but rewarding role, offering the chance to make a real impact in a safety-critical, specialist manufacturing environment.
