Press Brake Setter / Operator

 

Purpose of the Role

To accurately set and operate CNC press brake machines to bend, fold, and form sheet metal components as per drawings and specifications. The role plays a key part in manufacturing high-quality parts for Point of Sale (POS) displays and related products, while ensuring safety and efficiency on the shop floor.


Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC press brake machines to produce metal components to precise specifications.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, folding diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Select and install correct tooling, punches, and dies based on job requirements.
  • Perform first-off inspections and conduct in-process quality checks using measuring tools (e.g. callipers, angle gauges, Verniers).
  • Make machine adjustments and corrections to ensure product accuracy and consistency.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including job tracking and inspection reports.
  • Report any machine issues, material shortages, or quality concerns to supervisors.
  • Follow all company health and safety policies, using PPE and safe working practices at all times.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Essential:
    • Proven experience setting and operating a CNC press brake machine.
    • Experience in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Desirable:
    • Background in POS, sheet metal displays, signage, or similar industries.
    • Experience with press brake brands such as Amada, Trumpf, Bystronic, or LVD.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and folding programs.
  • Competence in using measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Understanding of material behaviour and bend allowances.

Package available

  • Temp to perm contract
  • Shift times - Monday to Thursday 4pm to 2am
  • Hourly rate £15.00ph, with a £1.00ph shift allowance
