Business Development Director

Thorn Baker is currently working in collaboration with an exceptional Soft Services Facilities Management company, to resource a competent and driven Business Development Director. 

Based in the North of the UK, the opportunity will allow the right person the chance to grow new business across the Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Scotland regions. Please note, you can be situated anywhere in the North of the UK for the role. 

Reporting diirectly to the e Chief Growth Officer, you will be fully supported by our business development, bid, pricing, and CRM teams.

The Business Development Director will be responsible for:

  • Developing and enhancing the business-unit-specific growth plan encompassing the Win, Grow, Retain philosophy in consultation with the Chief Growth Officer, the Regional/Sector Managing Director and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Implement a compelling value proposition and go-to-market strategy for the associated Sector/Region.
  • Develop and maintain a 5-year pipeline across current and target clients, all captured on CRM.
  • Create win themes and solutions per opportunity detailing compelling reasons to win, including clear commitments across all opportunities.
  • Actively and successfully manage the complete sales and bid process: lead generation, credentials pitch, asking questions, solution build, bid management, pricing strategy, negotiation, close and handover to the operations team. 
  • Develop comprehensive evidence-based collateral specific to the region/sector.
  • Maintain growth agenda in line with Churchill Group sign-off procedures.
  • Develop a comprehensive sector-focused network and drive C-suite engagement across key current and target clients.
  • Be a leader within the Growth Senior Leadership Team, contributing to and driving the UK growth agenda and 5-year plan
  • Mentor and develop commercial support for individuals and teams.

  • Possesses drive, motivation and attention to detail in ensuring all sales opportunities are explored and capitalised.
  • Uses excellent communication skills with interpersonal skills to interact at all levels. 
  • Demonstrates excellent appreciation of the English language and grammar and what it takes to score maximum points on quality bid submissions.
  • Has an exceptional understanding of pricing models, commercial levers and risk.
  • Understands the end-to-end Bid process with experience in leading large complex bids over the value of £5m per annum.
  • Can evidence strong IT skills with the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook) and databases.
