Job Description
The Assistant Site Manager supports the Site Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations on construction sites within the West Midlands region. This role involves coordinating site activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards. The Assistant Site Manager contributes to planning, resource management, and compliance with health and safety regulations. The position requires effective communication with contractors, suppliers, and clients to maintain smooth site operations.
Job Duties
- Assist in the planning and organisation of site activities, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to project timelines.
- Monitor site progress and quality to ensure that construction work meets project specifications and standards.
- Support the implementation and enforcement of health and safety policies, maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
- Conduct regular site inspections and report on progress, issues, and risks to the Site Manager.
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, including daily reports, labour hours, and incident logs.
- Assist in resolving on-site issues promptly to minimise delays and cost overruns.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies during all site operations.
- Participate in site meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the induction and training of site personnel as required.
Required Qualifications
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate.
- Valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
- Current First Aid certification.
- Full, clean driving licence.
Education
- Minimum of five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and mathematics, or equivalent qualifications.
- Relevant vocational qualifications in construction or site management are advantageous.
Experience
- Previous experience working on construction sites in a supervisory or assistant management capacity, ideally within residential, commercial, or civil engineering projects.
- Familiarity with site operations, health and safety requirements, and construction processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to lead by example and motivate site operatives.
- Proficient in the use of relevant site management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Problem-solving aptitude and ability to work under pressure.
Working Conditions
- Full-time contract role, typically based on construction sites within the West Midlands area.
- Work involves regular exposure to outdoor conditions, including inclement weather.
- Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
- Working hours may vary and occasionally require early starts or extended days to meet project deadlines.
- Physical activity is a component of the role, including site inspections and walking on uneven terrain.
