Proud to be Finalists at The Global Payroll Awards 2025 in Warsaw

Payroll might not always get the spotlight it deserves, but it’s the backbone of any well-run business. That’s why we’re so proud that our team had their moment to shine as finalists at the Global Payroll Awards in Warsaw last week. Being recognised on a global stage for running a smooth, accurate, and fully compliant payroll system is a real achievement.

The Global Payroll Alliance - who run summits and symposiums around the world - hosted the annual Global Payroll Awards 2025 to celebrate the unsung heroes of the payroll world. And with stats like these, our in-house payroll team more than earned their place among the finalists. In 2024 alone, they processed over 70,000 timesheets and managed payroll for an average of 1,500 temporary workers each week. What’s more, their input accuracy jumped from 96.9% to an impressive 98.99% year-on-year.

Our eagled-eyed payroll team is committed to getting it right first time, ensuring all Thorn Baker staff and temps are paid accurately and on time. It’s this commitment to precision that caught the attention of the Global Payroll Alliance. And while we might not be the biggest payroll team out there, we’re incredibly proud to have been shortlisted alongside some of the industry’s key players.

Representing Thorn Baker Group, our Payroll Manager, Beth Wise, gave us an account of the experience and what it meant to be shortlisted among the industry’s best;

The day started with a very early 2 am alarm to depart for the airport. After a train journey from Kraków to Warsaw, the team arrived at Warsaw Polo Club, right in the heart of the picturesque Polish countryside. The venue was remarkable, set in the woodlands with fairy lights draping from tree to tree, candles lit on every table, a pianist playing amongst the crowd, and polo horses trotting in the backdrop.

But it wasn’t just the venue that impressed us, it was the company of our fellow finalists. We got the chance to network and connect with some of the biggest influencers in payroll, including some global, multi-million-pound companies. It was a true honour to be shortlisted alongside these key players for the Global Payroll Team of the Year Award.

Beth shared her thoughts on the night: “Although sadly we were not winners this year, we are grateful to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award and to be able to attend such a wonderful event.”

The recognition by the Global Payroll Alliance reflects the hard work, dedication, and technical expertise our team brings every single day to ensure every person we place gets paid accurately, compliantly, and on time, which we know is no small feat in the world of recruitment.

Our CEO, Paul Jackman, also had some words to share: “Being shortlisted for a global award is a huge achievement, and I couldn’t be prouder of our payroll team. Their work is often behind the scenes, but it’s absolutely critical to our business and to the thousands of people we pay every week.

This acknowledgement shines a light on their consistency, attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to getting things right. Well done to Beth and the team.”
